Ronan Keating Scholarship Aims to Help New Musicians

Ronan Keating has unveiled a major initiative to support the next generation of musicians and music industry professionals. The singer, who first found fame at age 16 as a member of Boyzone, has launched a fully-funded Master's scholarship in partnership with WaterBear – The College of Music.

The Ronan Keating Scholarship

The scholarship will cover full tuition for one successful candidate to study a one-year Master's degree. Courses available include Songwriting, Music Business, Education, and Music Performance, Production & Business, offered in person at WaterBear's campuses in Sheffield or Brighton, or online. Tuition fees for Master's degrees typically range from £4,575 to £14,500, according to the UK Government website.

Ronan's Vision for Longevity

Speaking about the programme, Keating said: "This scholarship is very much for those of you who've put quite a few years into your music career and know what you want. I want to help you progress to the next level. Having a career in music is not just about getting your foot in the door; it's about longevity. It's about having a long career, but also a long-term plan and a vision."

The Dublin-born star, who has sold over 20 million records as a solo artist and 25 million with Boyzone, emphasised the importance of sustainable success. "This scholarship is there to support that for those of you who know what you want. Get yourself involved, and together, I hope to see you grow and have a long career in the music industry," he added.

Application Details

Applications for the scholarship are open now and close on June 30. Candidates must submit a personal statement detailing their background, music, and future ambitions, along with examples of their work in written or video format. The successful applicant will be announced on August 7, with studies commencing for the 2026-2027 academic year.

Chief Marketing Officer at WaterBear, Eve Massaad, commented: "This scholarship is about removing barriers and giving someone with real talent and ambition the opportunity to develop both creatively and professionally. Working with Ronan brings an added level of experience and credibility that will genuinely inspire the next generation of artists coming through."

Keating's scholarship builds on WaterBear's existing programmes, which have supported artists through partnerships including Tramlines Festival. With a career spanning over three decades, Keating will offer first-hand insight into building and maintaining a successful career in the music industry.
