A new study from the Tony Blair Institute has found that a majority of the public now supports halting benefit payments for conditions such as anxiety, depression, and stress. The report warns that voters increasingly view the current welfare system as 'unaffordable and unsustainable,' with one in three people knowing someone they believe is wrongly claiming benefits.
Proposed Changes to Welfare System
The institute suggests that individuals reporting conditions like anxiety, depression, stress, and ADHD should no longer be eligible for benefits unless they can demonstrate that their condition renders them completely unable to work. The study argues that employment can actually help individuals cope with mild mental health issues and recommends providing greater support to help them find jobs.
Public Opinion Poll
The Daily Mail is conducting its own poll on whether people with anxiety, depression, and stress should continue to receive benefits. In a previous poll, over 2,000 readers were asked: 'Should the King's state visit go ahead after the Trump shooting incident?' The results showed 57% in favor and 43% against.
