A significant political rift has emerged between Donald Trump and one of his most vocal supporters, Marjorie Taylor Greene, following a public disagreement over the release of the Epstein files.
The Friday Night Bombshell
Donald Trump delivered a stunning blow to the Georgia representative through a lengthy social media post on Friday night. The former president formally withdrew his endorsement and publicly denounced Greene as what he termed a 'ranting lunatic'. This dramatic move came amid growing tensions between the two Republican figures regarding the handling of the Jeffrey Epstein documents.
Greene's Measured Response
In a more composed statement issued on Saturday, Marjorie Taylor Greene acknowledged the support she had received following Trump's explosive comments. 'I want to thank everyone who texted and posted and commented support for me, you all are so kind and I appreciate, love, and support you too,' she stated.
The congresswoman expressed surprise at the backlash she faced for her advocacy work. 'I never thought that fighting to release the Epstein files, defending women who were victims of rape, and fighting to expose the web of rich powerful elites would have caused this, but here we are. And it truly speaks for itself.'
A Call for Political Change
Greene used the opportunity to criticise what she described as the 'toxic political industrial complex'. She argued that this system thrives on dividing Americans while delivering little of value to ordinary citizens.
'The PIC tells us to hate each other, fundraises off why we have to hate each other, and pits Americans against each other to the point of violence and nearing civil war. This is all so wrong,' she wrote in her statement.
Despite the public falling-out with Trump, Greene struck a conciliatory tone toward political differences in general. 'We can have our own differences and differing opinions but we can still love and respect one another. We have far more in common than we have apart.'
The Georgia representative concluded with a vision for moving forward that she described as potentially 'the most dangerous pursuit of all' - an 'America First America Only' approach to politics that puts American citizens above partisan interests.
