Scholes Stands Firm on Arsenal Criticism After Wright's Reaction

Paul Scholes has refused to back down from his claim that Arsenal will not be remembered as a great team even if they win the Premier League this season. The former Manchester United midfielder made his stance clear on the 'Stick to Football' podcast, despite being met with laughter from ex-Arsenal striker Ian Wright.

When Gary Neville read out Scholes' previous comments that Arsenal winning the league would feel like the rest of the league had been awful, Wright burst into laughter. However, Scholes stood by his words, saying: 'I do stand by a lot of it. I just don't think they're the best of champions that we'll ever see. I don't think we'll talk about this team in years to come.'

Scholes argued that Arsenal have not beaten top rivals Manchester City or Liverpool this season, which he believes prevents them from being considered a great side. 'To be a great team, you've got to beat a great team,' he said. However, he conceded that winning the title could propel them to greatness in future years.

Wright defended Arsenal, pointing to their strong start to the season and suggesting that recent criticism has overshadowed their earlier dominance. Roy Keane also offered support, noting that Arsenal's defensive record and points tally deserve recognition, even if their style is less entertaining than Manchester City's.

Scholes eventually agreed that the manner of winning does not matter, saying: 'If we were playing in the team, not playing great but you'd won the league, who'd care?' He reiterated that his main point was about enjoyment, not the legitimacy of a potential title.
