Trump Considers Replacing DHS Secretary Kristi Noem 'Really Soon', Report Claims
Trump may replace DHS Secretary Noem soon, report says

President Donald Trump is reportedly considering a significant change to his cabinet, with Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem potentially being replaced in a move that could happen "really soon," according to a new report.

Imminent Shakeup at Homeland Security

Multiple sources have indicated that a change in leadership at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) could be imminent. According to a report from The Bulwark, two former DHS officials who served under both Trump and former President Joe Biden stated that Trump is considering "moving on" from Secretary Noem. A third official described the situation as "fluid," suggesting the final decision is not yet settled.

The report suggests the shift could be timed for the New Year, as Trump may wish to start 2026 with a fresh slate. However, there is a possibility that Noem could remain in post long enough to oversee new enforcement operations planned for January and February.

Noem's Controversial Tenure and Potential Successor

Kristi Noem, the former Governor of South Dakota, was appointed to lead DHS after she was removed from the shortlist for Vice President. Her removal from that list followed her admission that she had shot and killed a family pet dog because it was difficult to train.

As Secretary, she has been a fervent advocate for President Trump's hardline immigration and mass deportation agenda, frequently appearing in promotional videos for the administration's policies. Despite Trump's personal praise for her enthusiasm, senior White House figures have reportedly grown frustrated with her leadership. A particular point of contention has been her employment of divisive chief advisor Corey Lewandowski, who has denied the reports of internal dissatisfaction.

The name floated as a potential replacement is Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin, who is due to leave office in January. While a CNN report indicated Youngkin had previously expressed more interest in an economic role, a senior White House official confirmed he is interested in serving in the administration. His potential appointment would signal a major shift at the helm of the nation's immigration enforcement.

Noem's Efforts to Retain Favour

Amid the speculation about her future, Noem appears to be making efforts to stay in the President's good graces. During a cabinet meeting this week, she offered Trump unusual praise, thanking him for "keeping the hurricanes away" during the recent storm season.

"Sir, you made it through hurricane season without a hurricane…even you kept the hurricanes away. We appreciate that," she said. The Department of Homeland Security has not provided an official comment on the reports regarding her potential departure.
