Chilling resurfaced footage from the Today show has revealed the interior of Nancy Guthrie's bedroom, the very location where investigators believe the 84-year-old was abducted from her $1 million Tucson, Arizona home in the early hours of February 1st. The disturbing clip, originally broadcast in 2013, shows Nancy, then aged 71, giving her daughter Savannah and Today show colleagues a light-hearted tutorial on making the perfect bed using the hospital corner technique.
Eerie Glimpse Into the Crime Scene
In the resurfaced segment, Nancy Guthrie can be heard stating, "Well, I think everybody needs to know how to make a bed. So, when the time came to teach [Savannah and her siblings] how to make a bed, this is what I tried to teach you." Former host Natalie Morales joked that Nancy's sheets were tucked so tightly she "could bounce a quarter off of it," to which Nancy quipped, "Natalie, don't put me to the test. It's way too early." She then provided step-by-step directions, adding, "All three of the kids thought [bed-making] was a really worthless skill." Savannah humorously interjected, "I'll teach you a skill, it's called 'napping,' when you're up at these hours. Love you, Mom."
Investigation Stalls as Fears Grow
Despite an intensive month-long investigation, no suspects have been publicly named and there have been no arrests. Police believe Nancy was taken from her bedroom in the home where she has resided since the 1970s. Megyn Kelly, who highlighted the footage on her show this Wednesday, theorized that Nancy's beige bedroom might still appear largely unchanged from over a decade ago. "The point is, you can see right into her bedroom, generally the way it was and the way it was set up. And she lives in the same house," Kelly remarked.
FBI agents were observed canvassing Nancy's neighborhood again last week, yet concerns are mounting that she may never be located. Sheriff Chris Nanos has reportedly reduced the number of agents assigned to the case due to a lack of new definitive leads. Nanos admitted to NBC News that deputies are still missing key information but asserted they are "definitely closer" to identifying a suspect. "I've said this from the beginning: I have full faith, full confidence, they're going to solve this," he stated.
Family's Desperate Pleas and Reward Offer
Nancy Guthrie was last seen around 10 p.m. on January 31st after returning from dinner at her daughter Annie's home. Her children, including Today Show host Savannah Guthrie, have made emotional appeals for her safe return. In a clip announcing a substantial $1 million reward for information leading to Nancy's recovery, Savannah acknowledged her mother may no longer be alive but begged the captors to provide closure for the family. "I realize my mother may no longer be alive but I beg Nancy's captors to help give my family some closure," she expressed.
Surveillance footage previously released by investigators shows a masked man at Guthrie's home prior to the abduction. The United Cajun Navy offered assistance with the search last week, but Sheriff Nanos reportedly declined their proposal. Meanwhile, Savannah Guthrie returned to the Today Show studio in Manhattan, New York City, on March 5th, hugging staff and crew, though she has not yet resumed on-air duties. NBC confirmed in a statement that her visit was "to be with and thank her TODAY colleagues," with plans to return to broadcasting eventually.
