Rapper Pooh Shiesty Ordered to Remain in Custody in Gucci Mane Label Kidnapping Case

A federal judge in Texas has mandated that rapper Pooh Shiesty, legally known as Lontrell Williams Jr., stay in custody on kidnapping charges. This follows allegations that he brandished a firearm during a contract dispute connected to rapper Gucci Mane's record label, 1017 Records. The decision was delivered by U.S. Magistrate Judge Renee Harris Toliver during a hearing in Dallas on Wednesday.

Multiple Defendants Charged in January Studio Incident

Prosecutors have also brought charges against eight additional individuals in relation to the purported January confrontation at a music studio. According to reports, the victims were robbed at gunpoint during this incident. The victims have not been publicly identified by prosecutors, with an FBI affidavit attached to the criminal complaint referring to them only by their initials. One victim, identified as R.D., is noted as the owner of 1017 Records.

During the court proceedings, Judge Toliver emphasized the strength of the evidence against Pooh Shiesty, stating, "I find that the weight of the evidence against you is strong." She highlighted his criminal history and a prior violation of a home confinement order following a firearms conspiracy conviction in Florida.

Defense Questions Prosecution's Evidence Timeline

Bradford Cohen, the attorney representing Pooh Shiesty, raised significant doubts about much of the prosecution's evidence during the hearing. Cohen argued, "The FBI doesn't take three months to arrest someone if they believe everything that was said the night that it occurred." This statement challenges the timing of the arrest, which occurred last week, nearly three months after the alleged January incident.

Prosecutors allege that Pooh Shiesty orchestrated the music studio meeting in Dallas to negotiate the terms of his contract with 1017 Records. An affidavit details that he requested a private discussion with the record label owner in a recording room. There, he reportedly produced contract termination paperwork and pulled out what appeared to be an AK-style pistol, forcing the owner to sign. The affidavit further claims that the rapper then confiscated the man's wedding ring, watch, earrings, and cash.

Background and Connections to the Case

Pooh Shiesty originates from Memphis, Tennessee, but is believed to have recently resided in a high-rise apartment in Frisco, a Dallas suburb. The affidavit indicates that several of the defendants traveled from Memphis to Dallas ahead of the scheduled meeting. This adds a layer of premeditation to the allegations, suggesting coordinated efforts among the accused.

Gucci Mane, a seminal figure in trap music alongside Atlanta peers like T.I. and Jeezy, rose to prominence in the mid-2000s with his hit single "Icy" and has since amassed an extensive musical catalog. His label, 1017 Records, is central to this case, underscoring the high-profile nature of the allegations involving industry connections.

The case continues to unfold as legal proceedings advance, with Pooh Shiesty and the other defendants facing serious federal charges. The outcome could have significant implications for all parties involved, highlighting the intersection of music industry disputes and criminal allegations.
