Colorado Family's Pets Sickened by Meth-Laced Hotdogs Found in Yard
A family in Colorado is speaking out after a disturbing discovery in their yard left multiple pets severely ill. According to reports from 9 News, methamphetamine-laced hotdogs were found on the property of a Broomfield mother, leading to at least two family dogs testing positive for dangerous substances.
Discovery of Tainted Food
The incident began in November when the mother, a vegetarian, noticed a suspicious hotdog on her patio in the Denver suburb. "She cracked it open and there's this crystal substance in it," her daughter Jillian Frank told the outlet. This initial finding would prove to be just the beginning of a harrowing ordeal for the family and their animals.
Pets Exhibit Alarming Symptoms
In late December, Jillian's dog Gable developed strange symptoms after consuming something on the property. Testing confirmed the presence of methamphetamine in his system. Then, earlier this month, Jillian's sister Annalyn Frank observed her dog Murray "spinning in circles and foaming at the mouth." Annalyn recognized the signs, stating, "We had experienced a dog high on meth already, so I was noticing similar symptoms."
Security camera footage revealed Murray had eaten something from the grass. Subsequent tests showed Murray positive for both MDMA and methamphetamines, compounding the family's distress.
Police Investigation and Family Response
The Broomfield Police Department has launched an investigation into the incident. A spokesperson indicated that additional updates may be provided in the coming week. Meanwhile, the family has installed security cameras, though no suspect has been identified.
Facing mounting veterinary bills exceeding $6,000, Jillian Frank initiated a GoFundMe campaign to support her mother, who cares for multiple dogs, cats, and chickens. "Starting over will incur an enormous financial burden," Jillian wrote on the fundraiser page. "We are at a loss and reaching out for help." As of Friday afternoon, donors had contributed over $3,000.
Emotional Toll and Future Plans
The emotional impact on the family is profound. "I feel absolutely helpless. My dogs are my absolute world," Annalyn Frank told 9 News. The mother is now considering moving to ensure the safety of her pets, highlighting the severe disruption caused by this malicious act.
This case underscores broader concerns about pet safety and intentional poisoning in residential areas. The family continues to seek justice and support as they navigate this traumatic experience, hoping to prevent similar incidents from affecting others in their community.
