A 74-year-old pensioner who tragically died alongside his beloved dog after being struck by a car in his own garden has been formally identified as John Bell, affectionately known as Jack. The devastating incident occurred in the quiet residential area of Broughty Ferry, Dundee, where Mr Bell was outside with his pet dog Charlie when both were hit by a red Maserati Quattroporte.

The tragedy unfolded at approximately 1pm on Monday afternoon when the luxury vehicle, which police allege had been stolen, crashed violently into the property. It is believed that the force of the impact trapped the elderly man against the house, leading to fatal injuries. His wife, Teresa, is understood to have rushed to his aid, providing assistance until emergency services arrived on the scene. Despite her efforts and the rapid response from paramedics, Mr Bell was pronounced dead at the location. Sadly, his dog Charlie also perished in the accident.

Police Scotland have confirmed the arrest of a 55-year-old man in connection with this harrowing event. The individual, named as Fraser Garden, who is of no fixed abode, appeared at Dundee Sheriff Court on Tuesday.
