Neighbour Reports 'Suspicious' Man Near Nancy Guthrie's Home Before Disappearance
A neighbour of Nancy Guthrie, the missing mother of Today show star Savannah Guthrie, observed a "suspicious" man walking near her residence two weeks prior to the elderly woman's suspected abduction, according to a recent report. Nancy Guthrie, aged 84, has been missing for over three weeks after authorities believe she was taken from her home in the Catalina Foothills outside Tucson, Arizona, while she slept in the early hours of February 1.
Authorities Release Footage of Masked Suspect
Law enforcement agencies have yet to publicly identify the suspected kidnapper but have disseminated video footage showing a masked, armed individual appearing to interfere with Nancy's doorbell camera on the morning she vanished. The FBI and local officials have increased the reward for crucial information in the case to $200,000, while the Guthrie family has separately offered a $1 million reward for her safe return.
Aldine Meister, a long-term resident of Nancy's affluent neighbourhood for nearly three decades, recounted to Fox News Digital about a young man she deemed "suspicious." Meister described the individual as not wearing typical walking attire and having his hat pulled low over his eyes. "He was kind of younger, and he just didn't look like he was going out for a walk," she stated, adding, "He just didn't fit."
Timeline and Speculation Surrounding the Case
Meister could not specify the exact date she witnessed the mysterious man but informed authorities after Nancy's disappearance. There has been ongoing speculation regarding whether the suspect visited Nancy's home before the day she went missing. In most images released by authorities, the suspect is depicted wearing a backpack; however, ABC News reported that one image without a backpack might have been captured on a different day prior to the alleged abduction.
The Pima County Sheriff's Department countered this claim, asserting in a statement that there is no date or time stamp associated with the images, rendering any suggestions about different days purely speculative. The investigation remains active as authorities desperately seek leads to locate Nancy Guthrie.
Family's Emotional Appeal for Information
Savannah Guthrie expressed the family's anguish in an emotional Instagram video, stating, "Every hour and minute and second and every long night has been agony. We need to know where she is. We need her to come home." The visibly distressed television journalist acknowledged the possibility that her mother may no longer be alive but affirmed that the family "still believe in a miracle."
The case continues to draw significant attention, with law enforcement urging the public to come forward with any information that could assist in resolving this distressing disappearance.
