A Long Island man has been charged in connection with a series of cargo thefts totalling more than $750,000, including nearly 34,000 pounds of frozen snow crab and a tractor-trailer full of cologne. Romoy Forbes, 31, is accused of using hacked email accounts to impersonate drivers from legitimate trucking firms, according to an FBI affidavit unsealed on Thursday.
The affidavit alleges that Forbes and unnamed co-conspirators stole the goods and sold them on the black market. Among the stolen items were 33,750 pounds of frozen snow crab worth $325,000, stolen from a warehouse in Worcester, Massachusetts, on July 15, 2025. Forbes also allegedly stole a load of blueberries, which he sold for only $4,000 after a buyer texted him, 'I don’t really sell produce. At all.'
The FBI investigation began after a warehouse employee reported the crab theft. The employee had posted a job on an online freight exchange, and a caller from a trucking firm—whose email system had been hacked—secured the contract. Forbes arrived in a red tractor-trailer, provided his real driver's licence, and drove off with the crab, but never delivered it. When the employee realised the GPS tracker was not working, he contacted the trucking firm and learned their email had been compromised.
Forbes, a Jamaican national, was arrested on Thursday. He does not yet have a lawyer listed on the docket and could not be reached for comment. The case highlights the growing problem of cargo theft, which an industry insider recently described as 'a massive growing problem that needs to get addressed.'
