Israeli Raid in West Bank Kills One Palestinian

Israeli military forces conducted a raid in the occupied West Bank city of Nablus on Sunday, resulting in the death of one Palestinian man and serious injuries to four others, according to the Palestinian Red Crescent.

Incident Details

The Palestinian Health Ministry identified the deceased as Nayef Firas Ziad Samaro, 26. His body was taken to a local hospital where his wife was giving birth. She was informed of his death while in labor, the ministry reported.

The Red Crescent stated that five individuals were struck by gunfire during the operation. Among the wounded was a 12-year-old boy who sustained a shoulder injury.

Witnesses reported that the raid occurred as schools were dismissing students for the day, in an area crowded with civilians.

Military Response

Israel's military issued a statement saying that troops responded to a confrontation in the Nablus area where several individuals described as “terrorists” threw rocks toward soldiers. Soldiers fired in response, and “several hits were identified,” the statement read.

Escalating Violence

Palestinians, rights groups, and international observers have warned about worsening violence in the West Bank. Young Palestinian men are being killed with increasing frequency amid a broader climate of arson, vandalism, and displacement of farming communities near Jewish settlements and outposts.

According to the United Nations humanitarian office, at least 42 Palestinians have been killed since the start of the year. Armed settlers were responsible for at least 11 of those deaths.
