Couple Perish in Embrace as Flash Flood Sweeps Car Away in Argentine Storm
Mariano Robles, 28, and Solana Albornoz, 32, died in each other's arms after their vehicle was dragged into an irrigation canal by a sudden flash flood during a severe storm in northern Argentina. The couple had been returning home from a wedding in the town of Tafi Viejo when the tragedy unfolded, leaving behind their two young children, aged two and nine months.

The pair had attended a wedding celebration at the SMATA complex in Tafi Viejo, where they were last seen happily dancing with friends. They left the reception hall around 1 a.m. on April 5, amidst worsening weather conditions. Before their departure, they contacted their nanny to inform her they were waiting for the heavy rain to subside before driving home to their children.
That message would prove to be their final communication, as hours later, a powerful wall of water from a flash flood overturned their white Nissan Versa, trapping them inside. The car was discovered upside-down in a ditch after search efforts were initiated by Mr. Robles' brother, who alerted police on Sunday morning.
Desperate Search and Heartbreaking Discovery
Concerned relatives and wedding guests took to social media when the couple failed to return home by the following morning. One Facebook post pleaded: "If anyone knows anything about Mariano Robles or Solana Albornoz, please let us know as soon as possible."
Emergency workers recovered the vehicle a few hours later, finding the lifeless bodies of Mariano and Solana locked in a final embrace within the wreckage. Mariano worked as a civil servant at the Tucum Government Palace, while Solana was employed at the state-run savings bank Caja Popular de Ahorros.
