Canary Islands Rejects Hantavirus Cruise Ship Docking

The regional government of Spain's Canary Islands is opposing the docking of the MV Hondius cruise ship, which has been affected by a hantavirus outbreak. Fernando Clavijo, the leader of the Canary Islands, stated that the decision to reject the ship's docking is not based on technical criteria and lacks sufficient information to ensure public safety.

Urgent Meeting Requested

Clavijo has requested an urgent meeting with Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez to discuss the situation. The cruise ship, which is currently stranded, has passengers aboard who have made emotional pleas for assistance.

Health Ministry's Stance

Spanish state broadcaster TVE had earlier reported that the cruise ship was scheduled to dock at Tenerife, citing sources from the country's health ministry. However, the Spanish health ministry has not yet responded to requests for comment regarding the current status of the ship and the outbreak.
