Amanda Knox, who was acquitted of murdering her roommate Meredith Kercher, has written to Lucy Letby, the former nurse serving life sentences for murdering seven babies. Knox sent Letby a copy of her book and expressed a desire to meet or speak with her.
Knox and her husband Chris are producing a podcast series titled 'Doubt: The Case of Lucy Letby', which they describe as an in-depth investigation into the case. Knox said it had been an 'eye-opening experience' to investigate Letby's case, and they have travelled from London to Chester to interview people connected to it.
Speaking at an event in London, Knox said: 'I did send her a copy of my book. I wrote her a letter. I’ve not talked to her personally.' She added that the focus of the podcast is on the facts of the case, not on Letby herself.
Knox, who was wrongfully convicted in Italy before being cleared, said she feels a connection to Letby's case. 'When I saw how Letby was being cast as evil by the British press, I felt that uncomfortable shock of recognition,' she said.
Letby, 34, is serving 15 whole-life sentences for the murders of seven babies and attempted murders of seven others at the Countess of Chester Hospital between 2015 and 2016. Her convictions were upheld by the Court of Appeal in May 2024.
