Donald Trump has predicted that UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer will resign, citing failures on immigration and energy policy. In a post on his Truth Social platform, the former US president stated: "Keir Starmer will resign as Prime Minister of The United Kingdom. He failed badly on two very important subjects- IMMIGRATION AND ENERGY (OPEN NORTH SEA OIL!). I wish him well!"
Pressure Mounts on Starmer
The call from Trump comes as pressure continues to build on Starmer to outline a timeline for his departure, particularly after Andy Burnham's victory in the Makerfield by-election. Speculation about Starmer's resignation has intensified, with many questioning his leadership.
Business Secretary Peter Kyle addressed the reports on Sky News' Sunday Morning with Trevor Phillips, saying: "I have nothing to believe that they are true. I’m seeing a lot of speculation out there. The only thing I can say with fact is that the Prime Minister is hard at work, as he is every day."
Kyle Defends Starmer's Work Ethic
Kyle described Starmer as "one of the most hardworking people I’ve ever come across" and insisted he is focused on governing. "At the same time he is also trying to create the space where he can think and reflect on the political realities and challenges and the opportunities that lie before us," Kyle added.
The Business Secretary revealed he had a "frank conversation" with Starmer on Friday but had not spoken to him since. He described Starmer's mindset as "calm" during their lengthy discussion, which centered on the interests of the country.
Questions Over Leadership
When asked if it was time for Starmer to step down, Kyle responded: "I had a very frank conversation with the Prime Minister about all these issues and much more on Friday. My priority when I think what my role is in putting the country first is to uphold the authority of this government, to make sure that we can govern through a moment of political challenge, and that we are 100% focused on delivering."
