President Donald Trump has reportedly directed his team to prepare for a prolonged blockade of Iran in the Strait of Hormuz, according to the Wall Street Journal. Instead of escalating with more military strikes or pulling back from the conflict, Trump views the blockade as the least risky option, several officials said.
Iran's Peace Proposal Rejected
Earlier reports indicated that Trump was reviewing Iran's new peace proposal but was unhappy with it as it did not include nuclear talks. Tehran's latest proposal would reopen the Strait of Hormuz and end the war, but with discussions on the Iranian nuclear programme postponed.
Trump's Social Media Response
Trump wrote on Truth Social: "Iran has just informed us that they are in a 'State of Collapse'. They want us to 'Open the Hormuz Strait', as soon as possible, as they try to figure out their leadership situation (Which I believe they will be able to do!)."
The White House confirmed that Trump has met with his team over Iran's proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, but no agreement has been reached. The blockade strategy aims to pressure Iran without direct military confrontation, though it carries significant economic and diplomatic risks.
