Trump: King Charles Agrees Iran Must Not Get Nuclear Weapons

US President Donald Trump has insisted that King Charles agrees with him that Iran should never be allowed to possess nuclear weapons. The American leader made the remarks during a toast at the White House state dinner on Tuesday evening, honouring the King and Queen Camilla.

Trump's Toast at the State Dinner

In his speech, Mr Trump referenced ongoing Middle East efforts, stating: 'We're doing a little Middle East work right now, and we're doing very well. We have militarily defeated that particular opponent, and we're never going to let that opponent ever, Charles agrees with me even more than I do, we're never going to let that opponent have a nuclear weapon. They know that, and they've known it right now, very powerfully.'

The King's Address

Earlier in the day, the King delivered a historic address to the US Congress on Capitol Hill. At the dinner, he called on President Trump to 'renew' the bonds of friendship between the United States and the United Kingdom at this 'critical time'. Charles, in a shorter and more personal speech, emphasised that the 'indispensable alliance' is a 'cornerstone of prosperity and security for both British and American citizens'.

Mutual Praise and Gifts

Mr Trump congratulated the King on his speech, noting that he managed to get Democrats to stand, something he claimed he had never been able to do. The president also described the US-UK relationship as 'unbreakable in any conflict' and 'a friendship unlike any other on earth'. The King, referencing global conflicts including the war in Iran and the conflict in Ukraine, spoke of 'those who wish us harm across the world' and stressed the need to reaffirm the basis of the partnership.

In a personal gesture, the King presented Mr Trump with the original bell from the Royal Navy Second World War submarine HMS Trump, quipping: 'If you should ever need to get hold of us… well just give us a ring.'
