French President Emmanuel Macron was seen laughing alongside the leaders of Albania and Azerbaijan as they mocked US President Donald Trump for falsely claiming to have brokered a peace deal between their nations. The incident occurred at the European Political Community meeting in Copenhagen.
Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama approached Macron in mock fury, jokingly demanding an apology for not congratulating them on the supposed peace deal. Rama's comment referenced Trump's repeated confusion of Armenia and Albania when discussing the long-standing conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
In a recent Fox News interview, Trump claimed he had solved wars that were unsolvable, specifically mentioning Azerbaijan and Albania. He also butchered the name of the South Caucasus country during a press conference with UK PM Keir Starmer, saying 'Aber-baijan and Albania'.
While Trump did broker a deal between Azerbaijan and Armenia in August, his broader claims of ending seven wars as a mediator are false. Tensions between Serbia and Kosovo, and Egypt and Ethiopia, have not escalated into recent wars. India also rejected White House claims that Trump helped de-escalate hostilities with Pakistan.
In another setback, a Hamas official said the group needs more time to study Trump's 20-point peace plan for Gaza, despite Trump giving an ultimatum of three to four days for acceptance.
