Federal Bureau of Investigation officials have confirmed that rapper Offset was the victim of a violent ambush and attempted robbery outside a Florida casino last week, during which he sustained a gunshot wound to his leg. The incident occurred late on Monday night outside the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida, located just north of Miami.
Details of the Assault and Investigation
According to an official statement released by the FBI on Tuesday, a large group of individuals targeted Offset in what appears to have been a coordinated attack. During the assault, a single gunshot was fired, striking the rapper in the leg. The assailants then attempted to forcibly remove Offset's watch, but this robbery attempt was unsuccessful.
Federal investigators are actively searching for the suspects involved in the attack. Following the shooting, the suspects fled the scene in two separate Chevrolet SUVs. One vehicle, a black Suburban, was seen heading towards Hollywood, Florida, while the other, a Tahoe, fled southbound in the direction of Miami.
Aftermath and Arrests
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, law enforcement officers detained two individuals. However, authorities have not presented evidence directly linking either person to the shooting itself. One of those detained was identified as rapper Lil Tjay, whose legal name is Tione Jayden Merritt.
The Seminole Police Department in Florida stated that Lil Tjay was arrested in connection with an altercation that occurred prior to the shooting. He faced charges of disorderly conduct and operating a vehicle without a valid license. His attorney, Dawn M. Florio, emphasized to The Associated Press that her client did not possess a firearm and was not charged with any weapons-related offenses. Lil Tjay was subsequently released after posting bond.
Offset's Condition and Career Background
Offset, born Kiari Kendrell Cephus, was hospitalized for several days following the shooting but made a swift recovery. He returned to performing just days later, taking the stage at a music festival at the University of Arkansas on Saturday.
The rapper rose to prominence as a member of the influential hip-hop trio Migos, which originated from Atlanta. The group is widely celebrated for popularizing the rapid-fire triplet flow, a distinctive vocal delivery that significantly influenced the trajectory of trap music. Migos achieved substantial commercial success with multiple platinum-selling singles, including Bad and Boujee, which reached number one on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100 chart, as well as Stir Fry and Narcos. The group released four full-length studio albums throughout their career.
Tragically, this is not the first violent incident to affect the Migos family. More than three years ago, Offset's cousin and fellow Migos member, Takeoff, was shot and killed at a bowling alley in Houston.
