Bringing Austen to a New Generation

Netflix has stated the series aims to "faithfully bring Jane Austen's iconic story back to life for audiences that cherish it, while inspiring a new generation to fall in love with it for the first time." This adaptation joins a long lineage of screen versions, following the beloved 1995 BBC miniseries with Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle and the 2005 film starring Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen.

The series has been written and executive produced by bestselling author Dolly Alderton, known for Everything I Know About Love. "Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice is the blueprint for romantic comedy," Alderton said. "It has been a joy to delve back into its pages to find both familiar and fresh ways of bringing this beloved book to life."

She added, "With Euros Lyn directing our stellar cast, I am so excited to reintroduce these hilarious and complicated characters to those who count Pride and Prejudice as their favourite book, and those who are yet to meet their Lizzie and Mr Darcy."

Cast Background and Promotional Appearances

Emma Corrin rose to prominence for their portrayal of Princess Diana in The Crown and later starred in Netflix's film adaptation of Lady Chatterley's Lover opposite Jack O'Connell. Jack Lowden's notable previous roles include the BBC's 2016 War and Peace adaptation and a Golden Globe and Emmy-nominated performance in the Apple TV+ series Slow Horses.

The teaser for Netflix's Pride and Prejudice has already begun appearing in select cinemas, shown before screenings of Emerald Fennell's new adaptation of Wuthering Heights, giving filmgoers an early preview. An exact release date for the series on Netflix remains to be announced, with anticipation building for its autumn debut.
