Marwan Barghouti to Publish Book From Prison

A collection of writings by imprisoned Palestinian political leader Marwan Barghouti is set to be published in November. The book, titled Unbroken: In Pursuit of Freedom for Palestine, will bring together prison letters, interviews, personal material and documents spanning the last three decades of his political life and incarceration.

Barghouti, 66, has been held in Israeli prisons since 2002 after being arrested in Ramallah. He was convicted on terrorism charges for orchestrating attacks that killed five civilians, charges he has consistently denied. The Inter-Parliamentary Union criticised his trial, arguing it breached international law, including the Geneva conventions.

The book will be published by Penguin on 5 November. It includes private letters to his family, correspondence with public figures, press interviews, historical documents and photographs, alongside extracts from his Arabic-language book 1,000 Days in Solitary Confinement. Barghouti has spent extended periods in solitary confinement and, according to former detainees, has been subjected to multiple serious assaults in prison.

Barghouti is a member of Fatah, a rival of Hamas, and has long advocated a two-state solution. Opinion polls show he is the most popular Palestinian politician in Gaza and the West Bank, often described as 'Palestine's Mandela'. International campaigns have called for his release, with cultural figures including Margaret Atwood, Benedict Cumberbatch and Sting signing an open letter in December 2025.

An introduction to the book has been written by his wife, Fadwa Barghouti, a prominent advocate for his release. 'For a long time, I have wished that the world could hear Marwan in his own voice,' she said. 'This book finally makes that possible.'
