Marvin Humes has delighted fans by sharing the adorable reaction his children had to his unmasking on The Masked Singer. The JLS star, aged 40, secretly participated in the popular ITV competition series, where celebrities perform in elaborate costumes while judges Davina McCall, Mo Gilligan, Maya Jama, and Jonathan Ross attempt to guess their identities.
Family Excitement During the Reveal
Having progressed to the semi-final as the character Can of Worms, Marvin was eliminated just before the grand finale. The former X Factor contestant, married to ex-Saturdays singer Rochelle Humes and father to Alaia Mai, 12, Valentina Raine, eight, and four-year-old Blake, took to social media on Sunday to post a video capturing his children's joyful response.
As the episode aired, the panel made guesses that included Marvin's bandmate JB Gill, sparking excitement among the youngsters. When one judge suggested Marvin as a potential candidate, the children began to realise the truth.
Chanting and Celebrations at Home
The family enthusiastically joined in with the show's famous "Take it off!" chant. Upon seeing their father appear on screen after the unmasking, the two youngest children erupted into shouts and screams, running around the living room in amazement. Marvin captioned the post: "The can is open!!! Surprise!!! Finally the worm is out of the can!!! What a show! Absolutely loved it! For the kids reaction alone!!"
The post quickly went viral, attracting comments from numerous celebrity friends. Alan Carr, winner of Celebrity Traitors, wrote: "This is soooo cute," while Masked Singer presenter Joel Dommett added: "THIS IS THE BEST! You were so incredible!"
Masked Singer judge and Love Island presenter Maya Jama commented: "Can of worms was a crowd favourite! This is so good," and former Little Mix star Leigh-Anne Pinnock said: "Cutest thing ever," accompanied by heart-eye emojis.
Marvin's Journey on the Show
In a bid to secure a place in the final, Marvin performed the disco classic Cha Cha Slide and Ordinary People by John Legend. After his unmasking, he explained to host Joel Dommett: "It's the most bizarre show, I just sang what I sing to the kids at home, basically."
His elimination occurred moments after Ben Fogle was also voted out in a double-elimination twist, meaning both missed out on next week's final, where Moth, Toastie, and Conkers will compete for the title.
Reflections on Solo Performance
Speaking after his exit, Marvin shared: "That was the whole thing. When I talked about doing the show, I wanted to be completely across the board. My first song was Be Our Guest from Beauty and the Beast. It’s a big tune to be fair. And then Ghostbusters and then Temperature. Then Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Pure Imagination, which is one of my favourite songs."
He added: "I drive my kids mad singing that at home when we’re watching the movie. And then tonight, Cha Cha Slide. Who doesn’t love Cha Cha Slide?"
Marvin, who has also hosted shows like This Morning and The Hit List, rose to fame as part of JLS on The X Factor in 2008. The group launched a greatest hits tour last year, but he admitted it felt "strange" to perform solo again after so long.
He said: "Do you know what, what’s really strange for me is I haven’t sung by myself in a long time. I’m used to being with three other guys on stage and that’s quite a comfort. A bit of security. Although I’m completely masked, it’s still been quite strange being out on my own singing."
The Masked Singer finale airs Saturday at 7pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
