A new poll has revealed the most popular members of the Royal Family, with Prince William taking the top spot. The findings were broadcast in a Channel 5 documentary exploring the monarchy's reputation after a turbulent few years.
Royal popularity rankings for 2026
The survey, conducted among the British public, placed Prince William at the top with a 76% approval rating. The Princess of Wales came second with 75%, followed by Princess Anne at 69% and King Charles at 61%. The rankings reflect public sentiment following significant events including the King and Princess of Wales's cancer diagnoses, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's departure from royal duties, and controversies surrounding Prince Andrew.
Prince William's enduring appeal
Royal commentator Daisy McAndrew noted: "There have been so many moments throughout William's life where the country has been cheering him on. We know that one day we are going to be watching him on the throne and people want him to be successful." She added: "William does have the hopes, beliefs and love of the nation pushing him on, he's our boy."
Despite a reported dip in popularity following Prince Harry's memoir Spare, William has regained public favour. The brothers are said to be estranged, with Harry and Meghan now living in the United States with their children.
Princess Kate's strong showing
GB News host Andrew Pierce described Kate as having "rockstar quality, which Diana had." Historian Dr Andrew Lownie said: "She will make a brilliant queen and I think we're jolly lucky to have her as the Queen in waiting." The Princess of Wales announced she was in remission from cancer in 2024, while the King continues treatment.
Other royals' standings
Princess Anne's consistent popularity over the years was reflected in her 69% rating. The documentary also examined the impact of recent scandals and health challenges on the monarchy's image, with commentators offering perspectives on duty, dedication, and public scrutiny.
