The Back To Black star revealed that she was diagnosed with thyroid cancer in 2020 at just 23 years old, undergoing an eight-hour operation to remove the tumour. She credited her husband Jamie's unwavering support as a crucial factor in her recovery, describing it as a defining moment in their relationship.
Marisa shared, "He was an immense help, and it was one of the moments where I knew that this was the person I wanted to be with forever." She emphasized Jamie's ability to support her both in triumphs, such as red-carpet events, and during difficult times, stating, "Jamie is great at both. He's there on a red carpet with me when I'm really proud of my work... but also when things aren't good he is right there and he looks after me."
Their Relationship Journey
The couple first met as students at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) in 2016 and have been together ever since. Despite facing her cancer battle just a year into their relationship, Jamie stood by her side, even comforting her after surgery when she had a noticeable scar. Marisa recalled, "When I came out of the surgery, I had a really gnarly scar... and he was just like, 'You look so beautiful.'"
Their romance culminated in a romantic manor house wedding in Sussex in September 2025, following an engagement in July 2024 on London's Primrose Hill, where they had initially met. Marisa admitted the proposal was a surprise, as she had expected it during a trip to Paris that was derailed by Jamie falling ill with a sickness bug, adding a humorous twist to their love story.
