Layla Taylor Confirms Breakup from Mason McWhorter

Reality television personality Layla Taylor, known for her role on Hulu's The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, took to TikTok on Saturday to confirm her breakup from boyfriend Mason McWhorter. The 24-year-old star became emotional while explaining why she is 'no longer' with McWhorter, whom she dated for nearly one year.

Emotional TikTok Confession

'I don't ever really come on my page and cry so this is already really hard for me to do,' Layla confessed to her 955 million followers. She noted that she wanted to 'set the record straight' as gossip and fan accounts had already noticed that she removed photos of Mason from social media and they unfollowed each other.

Reasons for the Split

'I genuinely wish and want the best for Mason. Things just weren't working out,' she said about the 'super fresh' split. It appears her boyfriend was the one who initiated the breakup, as she added, 'I think we were just on two different paths right now. He felt, in order for him to grow, he had to be on his own. And I respect his decision, and I truly hope that he gets what he wants in life.'

Impact on Her Family

Layla explained that the uncoupling is even more challenging because Mason had gotten close to her sons Ollie and Maxwell, whom she shares with ex-husband Clayton Wessel. 'Mason was a really big part of me and my boys' lives for the past almost year,' she stated. 'And we went through a lot in this last year, to be honest. But I'm grateful for everything, and I'm grateful he was a part of my life for how long he was.'

She went on to say, 'I just really thought that I was gonna get the family that I wanted so badly.' The influencer expressed gratitude to her followers for being 'protective' of her, while urging them to be 'nice and kind' to her ex. She declared, 'I still love him so much and I only want the best for him.'

Controversial Relationship History

At the start of their relationship, which developed in season three of the Hulu series, Taylor was criticized for having previously briefly dated McWhorter's brother Chase. However, she staunchly defended her decision to pursue a romance with Mason, joking in a confessional interview that she had initially 'tried out the wrong brother.'

She said on the show: 'I saw Chase a year ago now, so it's been a long amount of time. Honestly, if anything, I know that Mason was interested in me first.' Chase took to the comments of Layla's video to write, 'Love u sm! This sucks! But u and mase both are the best.'

Background of the Show

The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives has catapulted the cast of Utah-based moms to fame. Season one of the Hulu series took the streamer by storm, with fans quickly becoming engrossed in the messy lives of a clique of Mormon mothers and wives.

The group achieved notoriety on TikTok prior to appearing on television, due to MomTok leader Taylor Frankie Paul's brazen confession to having a 'soft swinging' scandal that rocked the social circle. Chase's now-ex-wife Miranda McWhorter and Taylor were the main wives involved in the swinging, leading to the streamer's interest in highlighting their lives.

Their sex parties led to an affair between Taylor and Chase while he was married to Miranda and she was wed to Tate Paul. Both couples later divorced. Season three of the show premiered in November.
