Former NBA star Lamar Odom's near-fatal overdose in a Nevada brothel in 2015 was a deliberate attempt on his own life, according to recently unsealed court documents. The records, obtained by multiple media outlets, reveal that Odom had expressed a desire to die and had intentionally consumed a lethal combination of cocaine and other drugs.
The documents, filed in Nye County District Court, include testimony from a detective who stated that Odom told a prostitute he wanted to end his life. The 35-year-old former Los Angeles Lakers player was found unconscious at the Love Ranch brothel in Crystal, Nevada, on 13 October 2015, after allegedly snorting cocaine and taking herbal Viagra.
Odom was rushed to a Las Vegas hospital in critical condition and later transferred to a Los Angeles facility, where he underwent extensive therapy. His family reported significant improvement in his cognitive and physical abilities, but the incident left him with lasting health issues.
The court documents also reveal that Odom had spent $75,000 on two prostitutes during his stay at the brothel. His wife at the time, Khloe Kardashian, halted divorce proceedings to be by his side during his recovery. The couple eventually divorced in 2016.
Authorities have not ruled out potential legal action against the brothel or Odom, but no charges have been filed. The case remains closed, with Odom's overdose officially ruled an accident by the coroner, despite the new evidence suggesting otherwise.
