Kate Ferdinand has shared a detailed 'back to basics' workout routine on Instagram, following her candid admission about struggling with homesickness after relocating to Dubai. The former TOWIE star, 34, posted the fitness video on Friday, explaining she wanted to help others ease back into gym life after taking time out in January when she was not feeling her best.
Workout Details and Routine
For the session, Kate wore a stylish black workout set consisting of a figure-hugging long-sleeved top and matching leggings. She styled her blonde hair in a sleek bun and completed the look with chunky black Nike trainers.
Warm-Up and Main Exercises
Kate began with a warm-up that included resistance band crab walks and various stretches. Her main routine focused on several key exercises:
- Squats with encouragement to add weight when ready
- Core exercises and full bodyweight movements
- Floor-mat core moves
- Weighted upper-body and leg exercises
- Lunges and plank variations
Throughout the workout, she demonstrated proper form and encouraged followers to repeat the exercises, creating an accessible routine for those returning to fitness.
Emotional Struggles Revealed
The workout video comes just days after Kate broke down in tears during an episode of her Blended podcast, where she confessed to struggling with the emotional impact of her family's move to Dubai. While she has regularly documented their glamorous new life on social media, Kate revealed deeper feelings of homesickness and separation.
Family Dynamics and Adjustments
Kate and Rio Ferdinand moved to the United Arab Emirates last year with their blended family, including Rio's daughter Tia, 13, from his first marriage to late wife Rebecca, and their two young children together - son Cree, five, and daughter Shae, two. However, Rio's two eldest sons, Lorenz, 19, and Tate, 17, have remained in the UK to pursue their football careers.
"I feel like we've opened our eyes to a different world," Kate said. "But I love London, I love the UK. I love so many things about the UK. I do feel happy in Dubai, but I'm just missing a part of me."
Mixed Emotions About the Move
While acknowledging Dubai as an amazing place to live that benefits her younger children, Kate expressed the difficulty of being separated from family members. "I know this decision is right for my younger children and as a family we are settled there," she explained. "But it's very hard because we've been through so much as a family and we've always been together and that's a huge adjustment."
She added that the family feels safer in Dubai than in the UK, but surprisingly finds herself missing English weather and cultural diversity. "If I could merge the two worlds together it would be absolutely perfect," Kate reflected.
Positive Aspects and Family Life
Despite her struggles, Kate highlighted several positive aspects of their new life. She noted that the move has helped Rio be more present with the family after stepping back from his pundit role with TNT Sports last year. "When he's at home he's at home and present, whereas before he was working a lot," she observed.
The family enjoys simple pleasures like walks together, and Rio now participates regularly in school runs - a change Kate finds particularly meaningful. "It's not like I'm unhappy," she clarified. "I'm adjusting."
Through sharing both her workout routine and personal struggles, Kate Ferdinand continues to connect with followers while navigating the complexities of international relocation and blended family dynamics.
