Kate and Rio Ferdinand Share Secrets to a Happy Home After Dubai Move
Kate and Rio Ferdinand Reveal Happy Home Secrets in Dubai

Kate and Rio Ferdinand have made history by becoming the first British couple to simultaneously grace the covers of leading health magazines, offering a candid glimpse into their family life after relocating to Dubai. The former TOWIE star, 34, appears on Women’s Health, while her husband, the 47-year-old ex-footballer, features on Men’s Health UK, with both sharing insights into what fosters a harmonious household.

The Foundation of a Happy Home

Kate Ferdinand emphasised that humour and open communication are pivotal to maintaining a joyful environment in their Dubai residence. She revealed that constant light-hearted teasing and laughter are integral to their relationship, stating, "It’s so important. We wind each other up constantly. But you’ve got to have a laugh, haven’t you? In our home, everyone gets in on it. I feel like it makes for a happy house."

She further elaborated on her holistic approach to wellness, which includes regular exercise, hydration, and limiting device use at night. However, she stressed that speaking openly about feelings without fear of judgment is paramount. "I want to look good and I’m happier when I look good, I have to be honest. But I would always choose to exercise because I work out for my mental health, too," Kate explained, adding that she aims to be a healthy role model for their children.

Competitive Spirit and Shared Goals

The couple occasionally trains together in the gym, and Kate admitted that preparing for their respective magazine covers introduced a competitive edge. "It was nice to have a shared goal like the cover shoot to train for together, but we were very competitive. It can get quite…intense!" she said. This dynamic, she noted, adds to their bond while keeping their fitness routines engaging.

Rio’s Health Journey and Family Values

In his Men’s Health interview, Rio Ferdinand discussed the lasting physical toll of his football career, including chronic back pain that sometimes requires hospitalisation or wheelchair use. He revealed, "I’ve had a bad back for a long time. I’ve got injuries that I had from my career…I was on tablets and injections for six years to play games. That’s affected me."

Since moving to Dubai, Rio has adopted a more proactive health regimen, working with a physiotherapist and personal trainer to prevent further injuries. "There’s a holistic approach to what I’m doing now and hopefully that’s going to put me in good stead. Rather than fixing when it’s broken, you actually prevent [injuries]," he said, acknowledging that it took him until age 47 to prioritise this mindset.

Rio also highlighted the importance of setting a positive example for their children, including Cree, five, and Shae, two, from their marriage, as well as his older children—Lorenz, 19, Tate, 17, and Tia, 13—from his first marriage to the late Rebecca. "I’ve got kids that need to see a work ethic. My kids need to see me getting up and going to work. They need to see me and [my wife] Kate going to the gym," he stated, emphasising that actions speak louder than words in fostering a healthy lifestyle.

Embracing Dubai as an Adventure

Rio described the family’s move to Dubai as an "adventure" and an opportunity to step "outside your comfort zone." However, Kate recently admitted on the Blended podcast that the transition has not been without challenges. "I feel like we've opened our eyes to a different world. But I love London, I love the UK. I love so many things about the UK," she shared, expressing homesickness and missing her stepchildren who remained in the UK. "I do feel happy in Dubai, but I'm just missing a part of me. Rio loves it so much. I am enjoying it, but I miss home quite a lot."

Despite these adjustments, the Ferdinands continue to navigate their new life with resilience, focusing on wellness, family unity, and the shared values that keep their household thriving. Their dual magazine features underscore a commitment to health that extends beyond physical fitness to encompass mental well-being and relational harmony.
