Singer Jessie Ware has delighted fans by sharing an intimate behind-the-scenes glimpse into the creation of her provocative new music video, which stars actor James Norton. The video, released last week for her single "Ride," features a BDSM-inspired theme with Norton portraying a "sexy cowboy" lover, and Ware has now unveiled additional footage highlighting the playful and humorous dynamics on set.
On-Set Laughter and Racy Scenes
The behind-the-scenes montage captures Jessie Ware, 41, and James Norton, 47, in fits of hysterical laughter as they navigate various racy shots. In one memorable moment, Ware is seen nearly toppling to the floor while mounting Norton, a scene she humorously captioned as "just a serious actress doing serious acting." This lighthearted footage contrasts with the video's steamy content, offering fans a peek into the fun-filled atmosphere during filming.
Collaboration and Creative Process
Jessie Ware explained how she enlisted James Norton for the role, revealing that she proposed the idea while attending a mutual friend's performance. She recalled, "James is a friend, and we were recently at our friend Jack Peñate’s performance (who I made 'Ride' with) and I asked him, 'James, do you ride a horse, and would you be up for being a sexy cowboy in the video?'" After sending him the song, Norton loved it and agreed to participate, with Ware expressing gratitude for his involvement.
Describing the shooting process, Ware noted, "To be honest, I didn’t think I would be as involved in the video but James being the total gentleman and professional he is made it so easy." She quipped about the chilly February conditions, saying, "It was a freezing cold February day and by 10am I was licking his ear," and praised the film quality and direction by Thomas, as well as the horse named Caravan.
Norton's Enthusiasm and Missed Opportunity
James Norton shared his excitement about the project, stating, "When Jessie came to me with the idea of being in her music video, I couldn’t find a reason to say no." He added, "'Ride' is such a great tune and as a long-time fan of Jessie’s work, and more recently a friend, it felt like a fun thing to do. Jessie, Thomas, and the whole crew made sure it was a properly fun ride." The video also served as a chance for Norton to experience a "Fifty Shades"-like role, after he previously missed out on playing Christian Grey in the film franchise, a part that went to Jamie Dornan.
Musical and Visual Elements
The disco-esque track "Ride" samples the iconic theme from the 1966 film The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, composed by Ennio Morricone, adding a cinematic flair to the song. This release comes as Jessie Ware prepares for her sixth studio album, Superbloom, set to drop next month, with "Ride" serving as a standout single that blends catchy beats with bold visual storytelling.
Overall, the behind-the-scenes footage not only highlights the chemistry between Ware and Norton but also underscores the creative collaboration and joyful spirit behind the making of this raunchy music video, giving fans an engaging look at the artistry and fun involved in its production.
