Sarah Michelle Gellar has disclosed that she suffered multiple car accidents while working on the hit television series Buffy the Vampire Slayer, attributing the incidents to exhaustion from long hours on set. The 45-year-old actress made the revelation in an interview with The Independent, reflecting on the demanding conditions she faced during the show's production.
Gellar, who played the titular vampire slayer from 1996 to 2003, noted that the production team eventually provided her with a driver after the accidents. However, she emphasised that such support was not extended to the crew. 'You shouldn't drive if you're tired,' she said. 'Do you know how many car accidents I had on Buffy before they got me a driver? But the crew doesn't get that.'
Now serving as an executive producer and star on the series Wolf Pack, Gellar is working to improve working conditions for cast and crew. She mentioned that on Wolf Pack, the crew receives transportation support, including a truck every Friday to take them home. 'As a producer now, I can get them an Uber,' she added.
Gellar also addressed the label of being 'difficult' on set, stating she now wears it with pride if it means expecting everyone to give their best. In a separate appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, she confirmed that Dolly Parton was an uncredited producer on Buffy, noting that Parton gave the cast personalised Christmas gifts and once complimented her performance.
Regarding a potential Buffy revival, Gellar told The Guardian that she is content with her contribution and would not reprise the role, preferring to give someone else the opportunity to create something new. 'I'm really happy with what I contributed. Even if I did a cameo, it would just be compared,' she said.
