The Apprentice Faces Viewer Fury Over 'Worst Cast in Show's History'

Viewers of BBC's The Apprentice have unleashed scathing criticism against what many are calling the 'worst cast in the show's history' following Thursday's episode, which was described by audiences as 'absolutely shocking'. The programme, now in its twentieth series, faced unprecedented backlash with numerous viewers expressing frustration that there was 'not a single person you can root for' among the current crop of candidates.

Chaotic Children's Book Task Divides Audiences

The latest instalment saw the two competing teams tasked with creating original children's books and audio versions for 4-6 year olds, followed by pitching their concepts to industry retailers. Marcus Donkoh's team developed a story about an astronaut with toilet troubles in space, while Andrea Cooper's team focused their narrative on a zebra named Zebory.

As the episode progressed, viewers expressed astonishment at the unfolding chaos, with both teams struggling to make coherent decisions about their story development. The lack of direction and poor execution prompted widespread criticism across social media platforms.

Social Media Erupts with Criticism and Unexpected Humour

One viewer posted on X: 'This year's #Apprentice cohort is so bad, the programme is unwatchable. Absolute dross.' Another added: '20 series in and by far the worst set of candidates, it's actually painful to watch.' Additional comments included: 'This must be the worst lineup on apprentice we've ever seen' and 'I usually really enjoy these series but this year is absolutely shocking.'

Despite the overwhelming criticism, some viewers found entertainment in the chaos, with comments such as: 'Another hilarious episode,' 'This episode is funny,' and 'Sorry but this episode has been really funny.' The divided reaction created significant online discussion about the programme's current direction and casting choices.

Marcus Donkoh Becomes Third Entrepreneur Fired

Thursday's episode concluded with Marcus Donkoh becoming the third entrepreneur to be fired by Lord Alan Sugar. The south London barbershop owner followed Georgina Newton and Nikki Jetha, who were eliminated in a double firing during the premiere episode.

Marcus's team failed to secure sufficient sales during the children's book task, resulting in their loss. As project manager, Marcus initially selected Kieran McCartney and Dan Miller to join him in the boardroom but quickly requested to swap Dan for Priyesh Bathia.

Reflecting on his departure, Marcus stated: 'I was absolutely gutted. I had so much more to give to the show. I feel as though I didn't really get to showcase my business acumen and my business skills, considering I've been running a business for five years and a successful one at that.'

When questioned about whether he deserved elimination, Marcus responded: 'No. I definitely did not deserve to go. I feel as though, in the real business world, you have a lot of information - you do have to make quick decisions, but you have time to think. It was really intense in the boardroom, I had to make a decision very quickly on who to bring back.'

Previous Week's Double Elimination Still Resonates

The criticism of the current series follows last week's dramatic double elimination, where events manager Georgina Newton and mortgage broker Nikki Jetha were fired after their team managed to locate only two of nine required items during a Hong Kong purchasing task.

Nikki Jetha, who served as project manager for that task, defended her performance: 'No, definitely not. I was brave enough to stand up and take on a challenge during the first task. It was unfamiliar territory. Not knowing the process, let alone the country, and not having internet and things like that.'

Georgina Newton similarly expressed disagreement with her elimination: 'No, I didn't. I think in the first episode, I probably contributed more than anybody on my team, and I think for the show, the person that contributes the least should go home. I thought I had a few more weeks at least left in me.'
