Apple TV's 'Palm Royale' Cancelled After Two Seasons

Apple TV has cancelled the Emmy-nominated dramedy 'Palm Royale' after two seasons, Deadline has learned exclusively. The series, created by Abe Sylvia, starred Kristen Wiig alongside an ensemble cast including Laura Dern, Allison Janney, Ricky Martin, Josh Lucas, Leslie Bibb, Amber Chardae Robinson, Mindy Cohn, Julia Duffy, and Carol Burnett.

The first season earned 11 Emmy nominations, including Outstanding Comedy Series, Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy for Wiig, and Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy for Burnett. It won one Emmy for Outstanding Original Main Title Theme Music. For Season 2, Wiig received an Annual Actor Awards nomination, and the series was nominated for a GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Comedy Series.

Loosely based on Juliet McDaniel's novel 'Mr. and Mrs. American Pie', the show followed Maxine Simmons (Wiig) in 1969 as she tried to break into Palm Beach high society. In Season 2, Maxine became a social pariah after a public breakdown and had to use her wits to regain her standing, uncovering secrets and lies along the way.

The second season also featured guest stars John Stamos, Patti LuPone, Vicki Lawrence, and Matt Rogers. The series was produced by Apple Studios and executive produced by Sylvia, Dern, Jayme Lemons, Wiig, and Katie O'Connell Marsh.
