Amy Dowden has spoken out about the challenges of the past few weeks as the Strictly Come Dancing tour approaches, amid ongoing controversy surrounding the show. The professional dancer, 33, took to Instagram to share a statement alongside a photo with fellow dancer Carlos Gu, expressing her excitement for the upcoming tour and her focus on rebuilding her fitness and strength.
In her post, Dowden wrote: 'The excitement I have for being back on the tour I can't quite put into words. The past few weeks has been all about building my fitness, strength, nutrition and health to be not back to where I used to be, but also pushing to be better and stronger. It's been tough but I know the rewards of performing makes it all so worth while!' She added: 'Remember don't get bitter get better.'
The post comes after Strictly has been rocked by allegations of inappropriate behaviour against former professionals Giovanni Pernice and Graziano Di Prima, who were both axed from the show. Di Prima was accused of kicking and hitting his celebrity partner Zara McDermott. In response, the BBC announced new welfare measures, including having a production team member present during all training room rehearsals and appointing dedicated welfare producers for both celebrities and professional dancers.
Dowden, who is set to return to the competition later this year, received an outpouring of support from fans, with one commenting: 'Can't wait to see you on tour, to see you back on stage this year and next is going to mean everything and so special.' Another praised her as an inspiration, saying: 'Much respect. You don't know the impact you've had on many people, including me. Keep dancing.'
