In an inspiring display of dedication, fundraising enthusiast Teresa Hodgson has generated a significant sum of £3,413 for the Club Doncaster Foundation's vital veteran's programme, Fit Forces, through a gruelling marathon challenge.
A Meaningful Marathon for a Vital Cause
The event took place on November 8, strategically coinciding with Doncaster Rovers' designated Remembrance matchday against Barnsley. Teresa began and completed her 26.2-mile run at the Eco-Power Stadium, tracing a route through the local area.
She was not alone in her endeavour, being accompanied by a dedicated support team throughout the journey. Upon her return to the stadium, she was greeted with cheers from participants of the Fit Forces programme and well-wishers, including former Rovers goalkeeper Jan Budtz.
Doubling the Impact
The fundraising total received a monumental boost thanks to the EFL's title sponsor, Sky Bet. As part of their 'For The Fans' initiative, the company generously doubled the funds raised by Teresa's incredible effort.
Reflecting on the challenge, Teresa shared her profound motivation. 'This marathon was a truly meaningful run as it was around Remembrance and raised much-needed funds for Fit Forces,' she said. 'I thoroughly enjoyed every mile and I'm so grateful for the support team I had. We had a great day, raised awareness and honoured veterans and serving military with pride.'
She expressed particular gratitude for the corporate backing, adding, 'It was amazing to know Sky Bet supported me and my cause. I'm incredibly grateful for their support and it really made my day.'
Supporting Veteran Health and Wellbeing
Every penny raised from this challenge will be directed to the self-funded Fit Forces programme. This initiative provides free, dedicated health and wellbeing support for veterans every weekend, including access to the Foundation Fitness gym.
Since its launch in June 2022, the project has delivered immense physical and mental health benefits to its members.
Ben Howe, the Foundation's health and wellbeing officer, was full of praise for Teresa. 'Teresa is an incredible woman who we're very lucky to have part of the Foundation,' he stated. 'The support she provides to the Fit Forces programme and the Foundation in general is incredible and she's always looking for the next challenge to support our programmes further.'
Having witnessed her effort firsthand as part of the support team, Howe added, 'I saw first hand the grit and determination throughout her marathon, how she kept pushing herself to the limit and all to support our programme and those within the Armed Forces community. Her life has revolved around the Armed Forces and her continuous efforts to give back to this community are inspirational.'
