Claudia Winkleman has confirmed the end of her BBC chat show, The Claudia Winkleman Show, after it ran for just one series. The 54-year-old presenter admitted she was "too nervous" to continue with the programme, which aired seven episodes.
Show Ends After One Series
The self-titled show was Winkleman's next major career move following her departure from Strictly Come Dancing in 2025, where she had been a host for 14 years. Despite attracting a star-studded lineup including Lisa Kudrow, Jeff Goldblum, Niall Horan, Vanessa Williams, Ralph Fiennes, James McAvoy, Jamie Dornan, Rachel Zegler, and incoming Strictly co-host Josh Widdicombe, the show failed to secure a second season.
In a statement, Winkleman said: "I'm incredibly grateful to the BBC for giving me the opportunity, to the guests who agreed to come and chat to me, and the production team who were simply excellent. Sometimes you have to try something to see how it fits, and I realised I was just too nervous to enjoy it." She added: "Maybe one day I will give it another try, but for now I already have the best jobs in the world and absolutely love the shows I'm doing."
Audience and Critical Reception
Most episodes of The Claudia Winkleman Show attracted an average combined audience of between 1.5 million and 2 million viewers, but often received a split reaction. While some viewers branded the series a "wasted opportunity," others praised the new format of the Graham Norton-produced show. There were also complaints about the set design.
Ed Havard, the Director of Entertainment at the BBC, commented: "Claudia's warmth and quick wit made The Claudia Winkleman Show an absolute joy. Whilst we loved the show, we fully respect her decision and would like to thank Claudia and the brilliant team at So Television for bringing the series to screen on the BBC."
Graham Norton Defends Winkleman
The chat show complemented The Graham Norton Show, occupying the same Friday night slot during the latter's off-season. Graham Norton was forced to defend the talk show following mixed reviews. Speaking to MailOnline, Norton said: "What Claudia did was The Claudia Winkleman Show, and that's what she's supposed to be doing. She shouldn't be trying to be me. She should be trying to be Claudia, and she nailed that."
Winkleman's Return to BBC
Despite the show's end, Winkleman will return to the BBC soon as the host of The Celebrity Traitors, which returns later this year. Havard added: "As the host of the country's most-watched show, Claudia will be back on the BBC very soon when The Celebrity Traitors returns later this year, and we can't wait to see what she has in store for the new band of celebs."
