Beverley Callard, best known for her role as Liz McDonald on Coronation Street, has announced she has completed her final radiotherapy session following a breast cancer diagnosis. The 69-year-old actress shared the news in an Instagram video, expressing cautious optimism about her recovery.
Treatment Journey and Update
Callard revealed she was diagnosed with breast cancer in February and began radiotherapy earlier this month. In the video, recorded by her husband Jon McEwan, she said: "I've done it, I've just finished my last radiotherapy session, fingers crossed. That was number 10 for me and lots of people have to have lots more, I know that. But for now, that's finished so hopefully, don't know for sure, but hopefully I won't need any more."
McEwan responded: "Positive thinking, darling, that's it."
The actress added: "To be honest, I feel a bit numb. Yesterday I really struggled, but today I've been fine. I've got to see the professor again in two months and then I'll know a lot more and mammograms and oncologists and all that, but radiotherapy is finished for now, so I'm really thrilled."
Emotional Response and Plans
Callard said she would not celebrate immediately, stating: "I'm not going to celebrate tonight, we're too tired, we can't be bothered. I'm going to put scruffy clothes on and just sit and watch TV with a cup of tea." Alongside the video, she wrote: "And that's a wrap on radiotherapy! 10 sessions over and done with! Lots more appointments down the line but for now...I'm so happy for it to be over!"
Career and Recent Move
Callard is widely recognized for portraying Liz McDonald in Coronation Street, a role she played intermittently from 1989 to 2020, appearing in more than 2,000 episodes. Earlier this year, she and her husband relocated to Ireland after she landed the role of Lily Patterson in the Irish soap opera Fair City.
