L7 bassist Jennifer Finch has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer, her bandmates announced in a heartfelt statement on Instagram. The 90s rock icon will miss the band's upcoming Last Hurrah Tour in October as she focuses on recovery after multiple surgeries and serious complications.
Bandmates Confirm Diagnosis and Need for Support
“Our beloved bandmate, sister and friend Jennifer Finch has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer,” the group wrote. They added that she now requires “extensive medical care, rehabilitation and professional in-home support.” A GoFundMe page has been set up to cover urgent expenses while allowing Finch to remain at home with proper care. The band urged fans to donate, stating: “Jennifer is part of our family.”
Outpouring of Support from Music Community
Fellow musicians, including punk legend Joan Jett, have rallied to support the fundraising effort. Dave Grohl's daughter Violet wrote: “Oh my god, sending so much love and strength.” Campaign organiser Aubree Miller explained that unforeseen complications led to multiple surgeries and setbacks. “The cancer and everything that comes with it have left her with significant physical limitations,” she said.
Finch, best known as L7's primary bassist, famously dated Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl in the 1990s. The band's announcement has sparked an outpouring of support from fans and peers alike.
