Carol Vorderman reveals concussion after hospital dash

Carol Vorderman has opened up about her recent health scare after falling unconscious and being rushed to hospital. The 65-year-old former Countdown presenter revealed on Instagram that she suffered a concussion after tripping over a tree root near her home.

Unconscious and rushed to hospital

In a video shared with her followers, Vorderman explained that she tripped on a public path, fell on her head, and lost consciousness. An ambulance took her to hospital, where her son Cam told her that the song 'Final Countdown' was playing in the ambulance. She said: 'I tripped, unconscious, hospital, concussion, massive dizziness.'

Return to hospital with severe symptoms

After being discharged, Vorderman's condition worsened. She said: 'The next day couldn't sit up and had massive continual vomiting so straight back to hospital.' She praised the Bristol Royal Infirmary for their care, including CT scans. Almost half of her face developed a black eye and bruising, which kept her from posting Instagram reels in June.

Treatment for BPPV

Two to three weeks later, Vorderman still felt dizzy, like 'walking on a moving ship.' She consulted a concussion clinic that treats professional athletes. There, Sophie diagnosed her with BPPV (benign paroxysmal positional vertigo), a disruption in the inner ear involving dislodged crystals. Sophie performed the Epley Technique, which Vorderman described as being thrown backwards quickly. She said: 'OMG it felt like I was falling off the edge of the earth!'

Recovery and fan support

After three sessions of the Epley Technique, Vorderman was discharged and reported that 95% of her dizziness was gone. Fans expressed their support in the comments, with one saying 'Hope you're doing well now' and another urging her to 'Take care.'
