Beverley Callard, best known for playing Liz McDonald on Coronation Street, has shared a new update on her cancer battle, revealing she is now more than halfway through her radiotherapy treatment. The 69-year-old actress posted a video on Instagram this weekend from St Luke's Hospital, where she said: 'Sitting in the garden outside St Luke's Hospital. Just finished number six. Over half way!'
Treatment Progress and Social Media Updates
Callard, who has 317,000 Instagram followers, regularly documents her treatment journey. In the clip, she wore a leopard print jumpsuit and smiled while sharing the milestone. She also posted a video at home with her two Giant Black Russian Terriers, telling fans she 'wanted a bit of peace' after the session. Her husband, Jon, quipped from behind the camera that the dogs 'shouldn't be on the sofa,' to which Callard replied, 'I know, but they missed me.'
Diagnosis and Early Stages
Earlier this year, Callard revealed she had been diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer, which led her to withdraw from the I'm A Celebrity...South Africa series. She underwent surgery in April to remove the cancer and received positive test results indicating a low aggression level. She first disclosed her diagnosis in February on RTE's Late Late Show, explaining she received the call just 15-20 minutes before filming her new soap role. 'My consultant rang me and said, 'You've got to come back to the UK.' I said, 'Well, I can't possibly, I've just taken a new job.' I was diagnosed with breast cancer. But I'm fine, I'm absolutely fine,' she said.
Return to Work Amid Treatment
Callard, who relocated to Ireland to play Lily Patterson on RTE's Fair City, recently returned to work while undergoing radiotherapy. In a video, she described feeling 'on edge' and 'nervous' on her first day back, likening it to the first day of school. However, she later shared that the day went 'fantastically' and that she and her co-star Emily 'got the giggles.' She added, 'It was really good. Everybody was so pleased to see me and I was so pleased to see them.'
Logistical Challenges and Continued Treatment
Following her relocation, Callard faced logistical hurdles in scheduling her required radiotherapy sessions. Despite this, she remains positive and continues to update her fans. Her latest post indicates she has completed six sessions, with more to come. The actress has been praised by fans for her openness and resilience throughout her cancer journey.
