Beverley Callard Completes Radiotherapy After Breast Cancer Diagnosis
Beverley Callard Finishes Radiotherapy for Breast Cancer

Beverley Callard, best known for playing Liz McDonald on Coronation Street, has announced she has finished her last radiotherapy session following a breast cancer diagnosis. The 69-year-old actress revealed her diagnosis in February and began radiotherapy earlier this month.

In an Instagram video shared with fans, Callard said: "I've done it, I've just finished my last radiotherapy session, fingers crossed. That was number ten for me and lots of people have to have lots more, I know that. But for now, that's finished so hopefully, don't know for sure, but hopefully I won't need any more."

Emotional Update from the Soap Star

Callard's husband, Jon McEwan, filmed the video and was heard saying: "Positive thinking, darling, that's it." The actress added: "To be honest, I feel a bit numb. Yesterday I really struggled, but today I've been fine. I've got to see the professor again in two months and then I'll know a lot more and mammograms and oncologists and all that, but radiotherapy is finished for now, so I'm really thrilled."

She also noted that she and her husband were too tired to celebrate, saying: "I'm not going to celebrate tonight, we're too tired, we can't be bothered. I'm going to put scruffy clothes on and just sit and watch TV with a cup of tea."

Career and Move to Ireland

Callard is best known for her role as Liz McDonald in Coronation Street, which she played on and off from 1989 to 2020, appearing in more than 2,000 episodes. Earlier this year, she and her husband moved to Ireland after she took on the role of Lily Patterson in the Irish soap opera Fair City.

In the caption of her Instagram post, Callard wrote: "And that's a wrap on radiotherapy! 10 sessions over and done with! Lots more appointments down the line but for now…I'm so happy for it to be over!"

According to the Press Association, Callard's announcement has drawn widespread support from fans and colleagues, who have praised her bravery and positive outlook throughout her treatment.
