Beverley Callard 'Feeling Numb' After Final Radiotherapy

Beverley Callard, best known for her long-running role as Liz McDonald on Coronation Street, has announced she has completed her final radiotherapy session after being diagnosed with breast cancer in February. The 69-year-old actress shared the milestone in an Instagram video on Thursday, saying she feels 'numb' but relieved.

Ten Sessions Completed

In the video, filmed by her husband Jon McEwan, Callard said: 'I've done it, I've just finished my last radiotherapy session, fingers crossed. That was number ten for me and lots of people have to have lots more, I know that. But for now, that's finished so hopefully, don't know for sure, but hopefully I won't need any more.' McEwan responded: 'Positive thinking, darling, that's it.'

'A Bit Numb'

Callard added: 'To be honest, I feel a bit numb. Yesterday I really struggled, but today I've been fine. I've got to see the professor again in two months and then I'll know a lot more and mammograms and oncologists and all that, but radiotherapy is finished for now, so I'm really thrilled.' She said she plans to 'put scruffy clothes on and just sit and watch TV with a cup of tea' rather than celebrate.

In the caption, the soap star wrote: 'And that's a wrap on radiotherapy! 10 sessions over and done with! Lots more appointments down the line but for now…I'm so happy for it to be over!' Callard began radiotherapy earlier this month after her diagnosis in February.

Callard played Liz McDonald on and off from 1989 to 2020, appearing in more than 2,000 episodes. Earlier this year, she and her husband moved to Ireland after she took the role of Lily Patterson in Irish soap opera Fair City.
