More than 30 NHS dental practices across Liverpool are currently accepting new patients, according to listings on the NHS website, although availability varies by practice and by patient group.
Finding an NHS dentist in Liverpool, particularly one taking on new patients, remains a significant challenge. Those who cannot secure NHS appointments are largely reliant on expensive private care, with rural and coastal areas among the worst affected.
National picture and local measures
Official data from Ipsos, compiled for the government, shows that nationally the unmet need for NHS dentistry stands at more than 13 million people, or in excess of one in four of the adult population.
A spokesperson for NHS Cheshire and Merseyside previously told the ECHO: "We're working with dental providers and partners to improve access to NHS dentistry. We've introduced local measures such as our Access and Quality Scheme, which focuses on improving access for vulnerable patients and those with the greatest need."
