Davina McCall has undergone brain surgery to remove a 14mm benign brain tumour, discovered during a health scan a few months ago. The 56-year-old television presenter, known for hosting The Masked Singer and My Mum, Your Dad, shared a pre-recorded video on Friday asking fans to keep her in their prayers.
In the video, McCall explained that the tumour, a colloid cyst, is rare—affecting three in a million people. She said she initially 'put her head in the sand' but after consulting several neurosurgeons, decided to have it removed. 'It needs to come out, because if it grows, it would be bad,' she added.
McCall underwent a craniotomy, a procedure where part of the skull is temporarily removed to access the brain. She expects to be in hospital for about nine days and will be 'off grid' during recovery. Her boyfriend, Michael Douglas, is managing her social media and reassured fans that she is 'in great shape and in very good hands'.
McCall, who was appointed MBE last year for services to broadcasting, has been a vocal advocate for women's health, particularly menopause. She has presented documentaries on the topic and authored the book Menopausing. Her sister Caroline Baday died from lung cancer in 2012 at age 50.
