Salmonella outbreak prompts supplement recall

Nationwide Health Alert: Supplements Pulled from Shelves

A significant salmonella outbreak has triggered the urgent recall of several popular dietary supplements sold through major online retailers, including Amazon, Walmart, and Target. The outbreak has already resulted in 11 reported illnesses and three hospitalisations across the United States.

Source of the Outbreak and Recalled Products

Health officials have traced the outbreak to a single contaminated batch of organic moringa leaf powder. This lot was supplied by Vallon Farmdirect of Jodhpur, India. The recall, announced on Monday 17 November 2025, affects specific products that used this ingredient.

The recalled items include Organic Moringa Leaf Powder and Organic Supergreens Powder Mix from Food To Live, as well as Organic Moringa Leaf Powder sold by Africa Imports. Additionally, the Member’s Mark Super Greens dietary supplement powder has been pulled from shelves.

These dietary supplements were widely distributed via the Food To Live website and through major e-commerce platforms. Consumers may have purchased them from Amazon, Walmart, Target, Etsy, and eBay.

Health Risks and Consumer Advice

Infection with salmonella can cause serious symptoms, typically including diarrhea, fever, and abdominal cramps. While most healthy individuals recover without specific treatment, the risks are higher for certain groups.

Young children, the elderly, and individuals with weakened immune systems are at a greater risk for developing severe, sometimes life-threatening illness. Health authorities urge anyone who has purchased these products to dispose of them immediately and to contact a healthcare provider if they experience any symptoms.

This incident highlights the critical importance of food safety and swift regulatory action in the supply chain for health products, even those sold by the world's largest retailers.
