Fearne Cotton has sparked anger among her vegan followers after revealing she has reintroduced eggs and cheese into her diet. The 44-year-old TV presenter and author, who has been vegan for years, explained that the change was necessary due to a past eating disorder.
In a video posted on Instagram, Cotton acknowledged the backlash, saying she understands why vegans are 'f****d off' but stressed the need to remain flexible with food. She stated that she still eats mainly a plant-based diet but occasionally includes animal products when eating out or on holiday.
Cotton, whose cookbook Happy Vegan was a success, said her decision stems from a 'pretty severe eating disorder' in her twenties. She emphasised that staying flexible helps her avoid becoming too regimented, which is crucial for her recovery.
The mother of two previously opened up about her battle with bulimia and depression on World Mental Health Day in 2023. She shared that she never thought she would recover or feel joy again, but has since found a better place. Cotton urged fans to 'go easy' on themselves and reminded them that healing is possible.
Cotton concluded her video by acknowledging that 'you cannot please everyone' and that she is still learning to accept that not everyone will like her decisions.
