Mum Considers Changing Baby's Name Over Nickname Slang Issue

A new mother is having second thoughts about her one-week-old daughter's name after realising that a potential nickname sounds like a slang term for a cigarette. The mum, who posted on Reddit, named her baby Sigrid but is worried that the nickname 'Siggy' could lead to teasing.

She wrote: 'My baby girl is one week old and her name is Sigrid. My husband and I struggled to choose a name. Now I'm worried she will get bullied for it sounding like cigarette.' The couple had considered other names like Ottilie, Aubrey, and Etta before settling on Sigrid, which the husband suggested.

The mum revealed she has since become fond of the name Beatrix, and her husband 'may be willing' to change the baby's name to avoid potential bullying. However, she is also considering alternative nicknames like 'Sisi' (pronounced Ceecee) instead of Siggy.

Reddit users were quick to reassure the mother. One commented: 'Sigrid doesn't sound like cigarette unless you've driven yourself mad worrying about it.' Another said: 'I think it's a really cool name. I would not worry about her getting teased.' A third advised giving it time, noting that postpartum anxiety is common.
