Conjoined twins Carmen and Lupita Andrade, aged 25, have opened up about their medical fears for the future after a doctor's heartbreaking prognosis. The sisters, who are attached at the torso and share a reproductive system, a liver, and a bloodstream, were given just three days to live after being born in Mexico. They have since defied expectations, building a large online following and working with animals. Carmen married Daniel McCormack in 2024, whom she met on Hinge in 2020.
In a recent interview on the Rodiculous Podcast with Rosanna Pansino, the twins discussed their biggest medical concern. Carmen revealed that during an orthopaedic appointment in their teens, doctors warned them about their spines. 'They did let us know that the way that our spines are shaped, and especially Lupita's, that by the time we hit our 40s, we're probably going to be mostly wheelchair bound just because of degradation and the fact that we're not supposed to be walking apparently either,' she said.
Lupita added that the pressure on their spines is 'crushing' and that her back 'crushes her lungs every once in a while.' Carmen confirmed this, noting that the ability to walk is not supposed to happen given their shape, but physical therapy since childhood has helped them coordinate and walk.
The twins also addressed misconceptions about them, including the belief that they argue frequently. Lupita clarified that she does not hate Carmen's husband, Daniel, and even encouraged Carmen to choose him. Carmen described her sister as her 'wingman' and dismissed the rumour as a 'weird misconception.' Lupita also called one of her own ex-boyfriends 'horrid,' with Carmen adding that they are not afraid to speak up.
