Robert Irwin has shared the emotional final message his father, the late Steve Irwin, left for him before his tragic death in 2006. The 21-year-old conservationist, who is currently a finalist on the US reality show Dancing with the Stars, recounted the contents of a video message during an appearance on The Viall Files podcast.
In the video, Steve Irwin is seen explaining that he is building a legacy for his children to continue. Robert, visibly moved, recalled his father saying: 'I'm not always gonna be here' and 'My whole mission is to leave a legacy that my kids can continue.' The message was recorded years before Steve's death, which occurred when a stingray barb pierced his chest while filming an underwater documentary.
Robert and his sister Bindi, 27, have both taken up their father's mantle in wildlife conservation. Robert works as a wildlife photographer and conservationist, while Bindi serves as CEO of Australia Zoo. They are also heavily involved with Wildlife Warriors, the organisation founded by their parents in 2002.
Robert's appearance on Dancing with the Stars has brought him further into the public eye, with a recent surprise message of support from Prince William during the show's 20th-anniversary special. Despite facing online trolling about his relationship with his mother, Terri, Robert has remained resilient and continues to endear himself to fans worldwide.
