Chris Packham, the wildlife TV presenter and anti-fox hunting campaigner, has reported finding a dead fox outside his home in Hampshire. In a video posted on Twitter, Packham showed the animal in his driveway with a large dark mark around its body, which he described as a snare injury.
Packham said: “It seems that if you stick up for foxes, you get your comeuppance from people who still think it’s a good idea to kill them.” He tagged the RSPCA and the League Against Cruel Sports in the message and said he would contact the police.
The incident follows a Boxing Day tweet from prominent QC Jolyon Maugham, who said he had killed a fox with a baseball bat after it became caught in protective netting around his chickens. Packham responded at the time, stating: “Managing wildlife doesn’t necessitate cruelly killing it.”
The RSPCA expressed concern and sadness over the incident, saying they strongly oppose traps that cause animal suffering. They confirmed they are ready to assist police if needed. However, Hampshire police said they could not find any record of the incident.
This is not the first time Packham has been targeted due to his environmental activism. He has previously received death threats and had dead crows left outside his home. Packham said such actions do not deter him, stating: “It never makes me angry, depressed, worried, it makes me think they’re doing these things because they’re being backed into a corner and lashing out. I’m interested in getting results, I will plough on regardless.”
